How to Use a Dog Shampoo Bar, Step by Step Guide - The Happy Jack Co

Dog shampoo bars are an all-natural, eco-friendly way to keep your pup's fur clean and healthy. Not only do they contain fewer harsh chemicals than liquid shampoos, they’re also easier to store and transport when you travel. Learn the steps necessary to properly use a dog shampoo bar, including what type is best for your pup’s skin and coat and how get the most out of your shampoo bar.

Step 1: Choose the Right Shampoo Bar

Step 2: Wet Your Dog's Coat Thoroughly

Step 3: Lather and Spread the Shampoo Evenly

Step 4: Massage it into Your Dog's Fur and Skin Gently

Step 5: Rinse Thoroughly

Step 6: Dry your dog off

Step 7: How to get more shampoos out of your shampoo bar

Step 1: Choose the Right Shampoo Bar

When it comes to choosing between a scented and unscented dog shampoo bar, there are a couple of factors to consider. Scented dog shampoo bars can help to mask unpleasant odours and leave your furry friend smelling fresh and clean. However, some dogs may be sensitive to strong scents or have allergies that could be exacerbated by fragrances. In these cases, an unscented shampoo bar may be a better choice. Additionally, if you frequently (every 1-2 weeks) wash your dog or if he has sensitive skin, an unscented shampoo bar may be gentler and less likely to cause irritation or dryness.

The Happy Jack Co unscented shampoo bar is suitable for dogs who have extra sensitive skin.

Step 2: Wet Your Dog's Coat Thoroughly

Before using the dog shampoo bar, make sure to thoroughly wet your dog's coat with warm water. This will help to loosen dirt and debris and make it easier for the shampoo bar to lather and coat their fur evenly. Use warm water and work it through the fur with your hands or a brush. Make sure you get all areas, including the legs, tail, underbelly, and shoulders!

Step 3: Lather and Spread the Shampoo Evenly

The next step is to lather the shampoo bar either in your hands or you can rub it directly onto your dog's coat. Be sure to spread it out evenly and work it into their fur. Start at the head and work down while paying special attention to areas where dirt or mats may have gathered. When you are finished, massage the shampoo through your pup’s fur until a rich lather is produced. Take your time for the best results! If your dog is not a fan of bath time you may have to distract with a LickiMat  or get an extra pair of hands to help.

Step 4: Massage it into Your Dog's Fur and Skin Gently

Massaging the shampoo into your pup's coat and skin is key to getting the best results. When you do this, use gentle circular motions with your hands as you make sure that all of it is spread evenly throughout their fur. Make sure that the shampoo reaches every part of their coat including areas around the legs and chest. This step will help create strong bonds between dirt, hair, and oils to ensure a thorough cleanse for a beautiful, healthy coat! Be careful not to get any shampoo in your dog's eyes or ears.

Step 5: Rinse Thoroughly

After massaging the shampoo onto your pup’s coat and skin, it is important to thoroughly rinse all of the soap off. You can use a showerhead or bucket of warm water, but make sure that all of the soap has been completely removed before drying. Leftover shampoo can cause skin irritation, so it's essential to rinse thoroughly.

Step 6: Dry your dog off

After rinsing, use a towel to dry your dog's coat thoroughly. If your dog has long hair, you may also want to use a hairdryer on a low setting to ensure that your dog's coat is completely dry.

Step 7: How to get more shampoos out of your shampoo bar

Once you have finished shampooing your dog with one of our gentle shampoo bars, allow the bar to completely dry out and then store it in the box it came in. We purposely added a cut-out hole so that the bar stays dry. If the bar is allowed to sit in water, it will degrade over time and you won’t get as many washes. One of our shampoo bars will replace approximately 2-3 bottles of commercial dog shampoo.

Using a dog shampoo bar is a straightforward process, but it's important to follow these steps to ensure that your dog's coat is clean and healthy. When choosing a shampoo bar, look for one that is specifically formulated for dogs and is free of harsh chemicals and fragrances. With the right shampoo bar and technique, your dog can have a clean, healthy coat that looks and feels great.
